A village schoolmaster advocates the setting up of a cooperative named "Progress". He is in love with the daughter of a rich factory owner. In order to put an end of their romance the father sets the newly established cooperative on fire. The timely arrival of the fire brigade averts disaster saving the teacher and the cooperative members from the ruin. The industrialist realizes that he cannot check the new progressive movement. His daughter marries the teacher.
